January can be a tough month. After the excitement in the run up to Christmas, and what with the plans for all those New Year’s resolutions… it can feel like it is all crashing down on us when it’s back to work, and the porridge on a Monday morning! Don’t despair though; you need only to take a look around to discover all the great things on offer. Here I’ve listed some to get you started.
Listen to some great music… or join in with your own.
The Corner House Clan meet up every Tuesday at 10pm in the Corner House, Rostrevor. http://www.facebook.com/pages/Corner-House-Clan-Rostrevor/204614526224003 Or head to Warrenpoint’s First and Last Bar http://www.firstandlastbar.com/events/ for traditional sessions every Monday night, a Ceili Dance on Wednesday nights, or Live Music on Saturday nights.
Learn to Cook
Kilkeel is know as the seafood capital of the Mournes, which is no surprise when you see the busy trawlers in the harbour. Book yourself into a Masterclass at the Cookery School, Saturday 26th January, where under the guidance of an experienced chef, you will cook a 3-course meal. http://www.mourneseafoodcookeryschool.com/
Windy and Wild event – Mourne Nature Watch
Join the group and learn a thing or two, or simply brush up on your overwintering birds or alternatively join in with the search for the secrets of the shore on the beachcombing walk.
Both Overwintering Birds and the Beachcombing groups will meet at 2pm on 19th January at Murlough (Twelve Arches car-park). Bring wet weather gear and suitable footwear. Suitable for all ages.
